The one word that goes the best with Christmas is “merry”, don’t you agree? After all, we don’t even say “Happy Christmas”, we say “Merry Christmas”! It is one of the happiest days of the year, filled with love and laughter, fun and food.
Christmas is almost here but unlike the other years, this year with the pandemic still going on, it surely won’t be the same. The clubs might not even open and if they do, unlike the other years, they won’t be crowded, the Christmas markets and fairs might not even be open for the public, the shops which used to have a month long sale for Christmas might not even be able to open their doors, the roads will be much less crowded, the restaurants won’t have a queue outside, friends and family from abroad might not be able to travel and meet you.
You might not be able to take your annual Christmas trip, basically in short, Christmas might not even feel like Christmas this year. But that’s okay, this year, let us all put our health before celebration, and as a gift, let us maintain social distancing and give the gift of good health and safety to our loved ones.
But just because we can’t celebrate Christmas the way we do every year, it doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate it all, right? We can still do a lot of things to make this day a merry one. Do you want to know what all we can do to celebrate Christmas 2020?
Christmas movie marathon
Since staying home is what we have been asked to do this year, let us all sit in our respective homes and watch a lot of Christmas movies with our loved ones. Make some delicious hot chocolate, roast some marshmallows, wear the comfy PJs and get under the warm blankets to watch Christmas movies with the people we are sharing this day with.
Decorate the house
You might not have gotten the time every year to decorate your house during Christmas but this time the one thing we all have in abundance is time- so, utilise this opportunity and decorate your home for this joyous occasion. It’s okay even if nobody else gets to see it, it’s all about how it makes you feel in your heart. Set up a Christmas tree, put lights around the house, and make your house look gorgeous than ever before.
Dress up and take a lot of pictures
We might not be able to go out this year but that shouldn’t stop you from putting on your gorgeous outfit on this day. Dress up and take lots of pictures of yourself, your family or friends (whoever you are celebrating the day with), pets, your house, etc. Who knows, maybe next Christmas you won’t be spending the day with them? You will look at these pictures even years from now and it will still bring a smile on your face, even if you don’t have the best Christmas this year.
Send warm home-cooked meals to orphanages, old age homes, and to the less fortunate people living on the streets
It is all about love and care, giving and sharing. Among the things that 2020 has taught us, the fact that we are all in this together and that nothing is permanent are the biggest lessons. This year has definitely been tough for everyone, so if you are fortunate enough to still have a roof over your head, food on your plate and good health- you should feel grateful and help the ones less fortunate than you at every chance you get. Go ahead and make their Christmas a merry one!
You can even order and send New Year Cakes for them- after all, is it even Christmas if there’s no cake? We don’t think so.
Have a storytelling session with your loved ones
Whether you do it sitting around the fire or all warmed up under the blanket, or over video call from miles away-a storytelling session can definitely turn the day into a good one and bring the people closer to each other emotionally. So sit down with your friends and family and share happy memories with each other. To make it even more special, order or bake some christmas plum cakes to share while sharing the stories with each other.
Don’t be upset about not being able to celebrate it the way you do every other year, in fact, go ahead and make this a Christmas to remember. Yes, it’s true that 2020 has been very hard for all of us but let us all prove it that nothing can dampen our happy spirit on this merry occasion and even if we are far away from the ones we love due to the pandemic, emotionally we are closer than ever before.
We wish you all a Merry Christmas and a very happy new year in advance!
