If you have any urological concerns, you’re probably going to seek out the services of a urologist. But what exactly is this medical specialty? Who’s qualified to do it? Do they have anything in common with other medical specialties? Here’s what you need to know about Dr. Emley and the overall practice of urology.
How Did He Get Into Urology?
Dr. Emley is a urologist who was born and raised in Michigan, but then moved to New Hampshire when he went to college at Indiana University. He graduated with degrees in biology and sociology and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. After graduating from Indiana, he attended Urology Residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota for four years before completing his training at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School where he served as Chief Resident for two years. Upon finishing his training, Dr. Emley became one of the youngest urologists ever appointed to the faculty of UT Southwestern Medical School and has now been on faculty for over 20 years!
What Does He Love About It?
Ever since he was a little boy, he wanted to be a doctor, and he has always been fascinated by the human body and how it works. When he was in medical school, his favorite part of being a student was learning how the organs work and what happens when they don’t work properly. During his residency at Harvard Medical School, he discovered that urology is the perfect field for him because it combines two fields that are very important to him – biology and social sciences – into one specialty that allows him to spend time with patients who have problems with their urinary tract or genitalia.
